The last post that focuses on the parks of Coconut Grove is Elizabeth Virrick Park. A picturesque park located in the West Grove with two basketball courts. It’s a vibrant park with a lot of color from the two different courts to the shaded recreational areas. The park reminds of Clay Square in New Orleans from an earlier post. From young kids playing basketball to older adults playing cards or dominos in the shade, this park never seems to lack action (although I was able to catch a break early on a Sunday morning). The park is named after Elizabeth Virrick who fought slumlords that increased the housing costs of the African American community in the Grove in the 1940s.
